School Bus Lettering
Ontario
O.Reg 612 Compliant Kits.
Every school bus in Ontario must display the operator name, bus identification number, and seating capacity per Ontario Regulation 612 and CSA D250. Our kits are pre-sized to exact regulation specifications — operator name at 50mm minimum, bus ID at 100mm minimum, all in contrasting colour on Chrome Yellow.
MTO inspectors verify all markings during annual school bus safety inspections. Non-compliant buses can be taken out of service until corrections are made. Our decals are produced on 7-year outdoor-rated vinyl — guaranteed to pass inspection or we replace them free.

School Bus Compliance FAQ
What lettering is required on a school bus in Ontario?
Per O.Reg 612 under the HTA and CSA D250, school buses must display "SCHOOL BUS" lettering (200mm minimum, applied by manufacturer), operator/board name (50mm minimum), bus identification number (100mm minimum), and seating capacity. Accessible buses must also display the International Symbol of Access at 15cm x 15cm. All markings must contrast with the Chrome Yellow bus body.
What size must the operator name be on a school bus?
O.Reg 612 requires the operator name at a minimum height of 50mm (approximately 2 inches). We recommend 3 inches for improved readability during MTO roadside inspections. The name must match your operating authority registration exactly.
Do I need reflective markings on my school bus?
CSA D250 includes conspicuity marking requirements that vary by bus manufacture date. Reflective markings improve visibility during early morning and late afternoon routes. Our reflective vinyl option aligns with CSA D250 standards and is recommended for all buses operating on low-light routes.
What happens if a school bus fails an MTO lettering inspection?
The bus can be taken out of service immediately until corrections are made. Fines range from $400 to $2,000 under HTA s. 175. Non-compliant markings are noted on inspection records and can affect operating authority renewals.
Can I use magnetic signs for school bus identification?
No. All school bus identification markings must be permanently affixed (vinyl lettering). Removable or magnetic signs do not comply with O.Reg 612 requirements. Our cast vinyl decals are rated 7+ years outdoor and resist car washes, road salt, and Canadian winters.
