Frequently asked
questions.
- Q. 01
What lettering is required on commercial trucks in Ontario?
- Ontario's Ministry of Transportation (MTO) requires the CVOR certificate number, registered owner name, and gross vehicle weight (GVW) on both sides of the power unit under the Highway Traffic Act and Ontario Regulation 424/97.
- Q. 02
How big does CVOR lettering need to be?
- MTO specifies a minimum 50 mm (2 inch) letter height in a contrasting colour, per O.Reg 424/97 §16(2). Many fleets choose 3 inch for better roadside visibility during MTO inspections.
- Q. 03
Are magnetic signs acceptable for CVOR?
- No. Magnetic signs are not considered permanent under O.Reg 424/97 and will result in an out-of-service order during MTO roadside inspections. Your CVOR lettering must be permanent vinyl, painted, or die-cut decals.
- Q. 04
What happens if my CVOR lettering is missing?
- Missing CVOR markings are a Schedule 1 defect under O.Reg 199/07, triggering an immediate out-of-service order with fines ranging from $200 to $50,000. Your truck cannot move until the defect is corrected.
- Q. 05
Do I need CVOR lettering on both doors?
- Yes. The regulation requires your CVOR certificate number displayed on both sides of the power unit. Every kit includes 2 decals — one for each door.
- Q. 06
How long do the decals last?
- We use premium cast vinyl rated for 5+ years of outdoor use. It handles Ontario winters, road salt, UV exposure, and pressure washing without peeling or fading.
- Q. 07
Can I install them myself?
- Yes. Each kit comes with a squeegee and illustrated instructions. Average install time is 10-15 minutes. Clean the door surface, peel, position, squeegee, done.
- Q. 08
What's the difference between Standard and Reflective?
- Standard vinyl is visible in daylight. Reflective vinyl also lights up at night when headlights hit it, making your truck visible during MTO night inspections and improving road safety.
- Q. 09
How fast do you ship?
- Fast turnaround production for orders placed before 2 PM EST. Standard shipping reaches most Ontario addresses in 1-3 business days. Rush shipping available.
