Track Every Vehicle in Your Fleet — At a Glance

Unit numbers are how dispatchers, mechanics, and drivers identify specific vehicles across your fleet. Whether you run 5 trucks or 500, clear unit number decals on every vehicle eliminate confusion, speed up maintenance scheduling, and ensure the right truck goes to the right job. They also make MTO inspections smoother — inspectors cross-reference unit numbers with your CVOR records.

Fleet Unit Number Compliance Reference

Fleet unit numbers help MTO inspectors and dispatchers identify individual vehicles. Under O.Reg 424/97 s.3, each vehicle in a commercial fleet must display sufficient identification to trace it to its operator. Consistent unit numbering also simplifies CVOR record-keeping — any incident is tied to the unit, not just the plate.

  • 3 inch — inside the door post, cab rear window, licence plate area
  • 4 inch — door panels, trailer sides (recommended)
  • 6 inch — tractor hoods, large trailer sides, maximum distance visibility
