Food Truck & Mobile Vendor Lettering — Meet Toronto & Ontario Requirements

Toronto's food truck bylaw requires your business name at minimum 10 cm (4 inches) and plate number at 15 cm (6 inches), both sides, contrasting colours. Most Ontario health units require your business name and licence number "prominently displayed" — but meeting Toronto's standard covers you everywhere in the province.

What's Required on Your Food Truck?

  • Business Name — both sides, min. 4 inch height (Toronto bylaw)
  • Licence/Permit Number — both sides, min. 2.5 inch height
  • Plate Number — min. 6 inch height (Toronto)
  • Address/Commissary — both sides, 4 inch (food trucks only)
  • Phone Number — recommended for customer trust

Choose Your Package

  • Basic — Business name + phone number, both sides
  • Full Compliance — Business name + phone + licence number + address/commissary, both sides

Why Our Customers Choose Us

  • Premium outdoor vinyl rated for 7+ years — survives rain, sun, commercial washes
  • Pre-spaced and transfer-taped — peel, position, press. No experience needed.
  • Contrasting colour on clear carrier — works on any paint colour
  • Reflective option available for night visibility and food truck festival requirements

Recommended height: 4 inch covers Toronto and all Ontario health units. Choose 6 inch for plate numbers or maximum street visibility.

Legal Compliance Reference

Food truck lettering in Ontario is governed by HTA s.16 (Highway Traffic Act, commercial motor vehicles) and local municipal bylaws. Toronto enforces the strictest standard: Toronto Municipal Code Ch.415, Art. VIII requires business name and plate number on both sides in contrasting colours. Our kits are sized to meet the Toronto standard, which covers you at any Ontario festival, market, or inspection.

Common inspection failures: business name too small, licence number missing from one side, or low-contrast colours on a dark truck. Our default white or reflective vinyl on a dark background exceeds the contrast requirement under HTA s.16.
